THINGS TO DO

Heritage Hangar

The Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar affords you the opportunity to fly in an iconic two-seat Spitfire from the most famous World War II (WWII) fighter station. As well as up to 15 Spitfires, the hangar is home to a 1940 Hawker Hurricane and Battle of Britain veteran Messerschmitt 109, along with a variety of WWII era vehicles. We highly recommend booking a ‘hangar tour’ to see the inner workings of the largest Spitfire restoration facility in the world!

RAF Biggin Hill Museum and Chapel

The museum is situated on the same site as St George’s RAF Chapel of Remembrance, built in 1951 to preserve the legacy of those who served and died in Biggin Hill during WWII. The museum tells the story of Britain’s most famous fighter station through the personal experiences of those who served there, and the community that supported them.

With regular talks, tours and special events throughout the year, the museum is a hive of activity. You can also enjoy lunches, homemade cakes, scones and biscuits in The Nightingale Café.

Down House – English Heritage

With a unique place in the history of science and evolution, Down House was Charles Darwin’s family home – and today it is a site of outstanding international significance. Step into the very rooms where Charles Darwin worked and lived, including the study where he wrote On the Origin of Species, and trace his story with a fascinating exhibition about his life and work. Enjoy access to the house, garden and greenhouse, along with exhibitions and a café.

Chartwell - National Trust

Bought by Sir Winston Churchill in 1922, Chartwell was his family home and garden for more than forty years. The house has been restored and preserved as it looked in the 1920–30s, and the rooms are decorated with memorabilia and gifts, the original furniture and books, as well as honours and medals that Churchill received. The property includes access to the house, Churchill’s painting studio, the Rose Garden, the Walled Garden, the woodland, Landemare Cafe and a National Trust Gift Shop.

Westerham Brewery

Established in 2004, the Westerham Brewery Company is proud to bring brewing back to the historic town of Westerham. With a rich brewing heritage, Westerham can once again be proud of locally brewed, top quality craft beers. The Tap Room and shop are open to the public, with a range of products available to sample and purchase – their beer is also available in our hotel bar! The brewery hosts a number of events too, including jazz and comedy evenings.

Squerryes Winery and Vineyards

The Squerryes estate is over 300 years old and has been home to 8 generations of the Warde family. The vineyards were planted in 2006 and, after a ‘long, thirsty wait’, Squerryes is now enjoying great recognition for their quality vintage wines. In 2020, the estate won gold in the World Championships, the fifth medal across five separate vintages.

Tours of the vineyards and wine tasting experiences are available. There is also an Estate Deli & Cellar Door shop with café and restaurant on-site.

Chislehurst Caves

Chislehurst Caves are a series of intersecting man-made tunnels and caverns covering some 22 miles. First open to the public in 1900 as a showplace, the caves are steeped in history – utilised as munitions storage during World War I, becoming an underground town as the largest deep air-raid shelter outside London, protecting over 15,000 people every night during the Blitz, and used as a venue for dances and concerts in the 1950s, 60s and 70s – with the likes of David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix performing here.

The Churchill Theatre, Bromley

Since 1977, the Churchill Theatre has been a leading live entertainment venue in the South-East. Offering top musicals, drama, comedy, dance, family shows, one-night events and, of course, the yearly pantomime.
